In case you’re wondering, James got the stage name, ‘Old Tidy’ because he is and he does! We also liked the sound of it. Simple as that. During the earliest days of ‘The Cover’, the topic of which instruments to be included caused quite a debate. In the end, the current line up of drums, bass, lead guitar and keys was decided upon, with James playing the keys. The decision to include keyboard provides Undercover with great versatility regarding our sound and the songs that we play. When playing for the band, James switches between many keyboard ‘voices’. This enables us to replicate songs from a wide range of music genres with confidence, professionalism and precision. By way of musical background, James started playing the piano soon after his 8th birthday and since the age of 16, he has composed and recorded an impressive number of piano and guitar pieces. He has also co-written material with a fairly diverse range of musicians. Today, he continues to work on original piano compositions. One day, James would love to see at least some of this work being released in the form of sound tracks to adverts, television dramas or even films. Only time will tell! In terms of Undercover, James handles a large percentage of the band’s administrative work and puts a lot of effort into setting up suitable new venues and clients for the band. He also plays an important part in choosing the songs that we cover and how we do so. That aside, James does his best to keep up with the other guys in trying to ensure that wherever we play, we make great parties happen…and on that front, we think we’re doing rather well! As well as working for Undercover, James is Managing Director and Owner of Retrospect Funerals (www.retrospectfunerals.co.uk).
